Our journey to Utah* The thing we do for cheap

We left our house on Wednesday may 27 2009. The flight was flying into Travis AFB. There were 45 seats available I was crossing my fingers. I was also telling everyone else to cross there fingers and everything else.
The roll call was at 12:30. We got to the terminal about 11:00. I was getting very nervous as they started doing roll call. This is were they call out everyone who is present in the order of there category. I just kept hoping that we would make it.
When they called my name and had me check in I thought okay smooth sailing form here. WRong!!
So after you make it on the flight. Then you stand in another line to check in and pay for your lunch if you want one. So we got checked in. It really hit me after we got checked in and all I paid was $8.50 for a flight to the mainland. The lunch's cost $4.25 a piece.
We then had to go through security and wait in another room until we boarded a bus and they took us to our plane. Well we got on the bus drove out to the plane and they were still loading all the cargo on the plane so we went back to the building and waited a little bit. Then we got on the buses again and went to the plane.
The plane we were in was called a C5. This thing was huge. It had all the cargo on the bottom then the seats were on top of the plane. I guess you could say it was like a two story plane. The seats were just like airplane seats only nigger and more room between the rows.
So we took off the kids did great on the plane. We got into Travis Air Force Base about 12:30 am Thursday morning. All the shuttles and stuff were closed. Before we left the house I had called and made a reservation at the lodge for one room.
So everything was closed so what else is a mom with a double stroller, three tired kids, and our suitcases to do??? Well we walked about three blocks to the lodge.
I am sure it was a sight to see. Picture this. Me pushing the double stroller, a suitcase hooked around each handle. A backpack on a handle as well. Dawson strapped in Landon and Brooklyn taking turns walking. As we were walking some base police men stopped and took our bags the rest of the way. They were heaven sent.
We got to the lodge and thank goodness i had called because they were out of rooms. So we got checked in got some snacks and headed up for some sleep. This time was about 1:30 in the morning.
My dear friend Ashely said she would drive to California to get us. Ashely is the greatest friend ever. She will do anything for you. She is there at the drop of a hat. She is the greatest friend ever. So I call Ashely and tell her we are in the hotel. She is not to far away so I tell her come up we will sleep for a little then make the trek back to Utah. Due to some gate security issues she wasnt able to keep the surprise of my sister millie coming with here with her. So about 4:30 in the morning they show up to our room. I am so tired at this point but how can I sleep at a time like this. I was excited to see them and so relieved at the same time.
So after a few hours of sleep we are headed out the door to drive to Salt Lake City.
We all piled in a rented mini van. I let the kids take there seat belts off while were driving. I know that is so unsafe but they had fun moving around in the car. The kids were great in the car. I couldn't have asked for anything better. They are great.
The kids were content and us adult girls talked, laughed, ate junk food, lots of diet coke and had a good time. Now what road trip wouldn't be complete with out an incident with the police??? Way to go Ashely. Little miss speedy.
So about midnight on Thursday me and the three kids finally make it to my mom and dads. I have never been more excited to see my parents house. It was a nice feeling to know I did it. I am not sure how long I had been awake or even what day and time it was but it was such a good feeling to know that we had made it. The cooler thing was that I done it all by myself. I was feeling pretty dang proud of myself the whole time.
I had big plans in the works but another plan was brewing. We headed down to st George Sunday and to stay until Tuesday. Dawson got sores in his mouth and an ear infection on Sunday so we had a trip to instacare while in st george. Then we get back and Brooklyn gets sick. She has a fever and is throwing up in the meantime Dawson still not getting better. So round two back to instacre. Brooklyn gets feeling better I think and Landon gets sick. Seriously!!!
So we have been hear about a week and a half. The kids have been sick sick. They have slept most of the days or cried(Dawson). I think we are on the mend. We went to lagoon as a family yesterday. Despite the fevers on Landon and Brooklyn making an appearance the kids had a great time.
The point of this is to document how we got here. How cheap it was. It has been great to be here. I know that the kids are feeling better. I cant wait to get out there and see fiend's and finally do stuff.
It was an adventure to get here but a fun one. The kids were awesome during all the traveling. They are such good kids. It was a great adventure to take with them..
*Thanks for reading all that. I know it didnt have any fun pictures but thanks for reading.*
